Content: The rose sits on the end of the bench
Sitting in a pot, drench
With water seeping from the flower
Like it from a hot shower
The gardener stops watering it
As she takes a nap, for a bit
Meanwhile, across the street
Lives a family that knows every beat
They heard gossip across the way
And wondered and said, “What the hey?”
But upstairs, deep in the dark
A boy stays and just marks
On the blank wall
Not having a ball
But, there is something good for this boy
It makes him feel well with joy
A girl comes and visits with him
A pretty girl, named Kim
Kim makes sure that this boy is not glum
She brings a pack of blue gum
The boy, named George, chomps and chomps
But his foot does not stomp
He puts them up on a ledge
Which oversees a green fur hedge
George, one day, stepped outside the house
For he did not scurry like a mouse
He was allowed to go out, for awhile
He had a big smile
This day was hot as can be
No, there were no bees
George went over to the gardener's house
Whom was wearing a nice blouse
He knocked on the front door
The gardener got up, from her lovely chore
George said, “Hello, mamam. I would love to take a look
At all the flowers that you have took
Out of the ground.”
The gardener replied, “Certainly, young one
You can stay and have some fun.”
George went on his way
To stay outside for the day
He saw all of the flowers, daffodils, and roses
His mother would not dispose
All of a sudden, he saw a flower
This flower did not have enough power
It turned it’s face down
Which is not normal for this clown
George asked the gardener, “Was this one always like this?”
The gardener said, “No, I did not dismiss
This flower
I watered it, last hour.”
George pondered this flower
With all his willpower
He noticed that it was a rose
Which seldom doze
George asked the gardener, “Can I take it home?”
The gardener agreed, “Sure, it needs to roam.”
George left the gardener’s house
Jumping like Stuart Little, the mouse
He took it up to his room
Hoping that it will bloom
He did not know that a saddened rose
Will bring all their life a close
The rose will bring bad luck to all
Even in the spring, summer, and fall
On the day after George visited the gardener
His world become harder
Kim came and started to talk
And George put down his white chalk
Kim said, “My family is moving away
I know that is not okay.”
George became sad, for he was not happy
He could not feel any crappy
He said with a frown, “Awww, so this is your last day?”
Kim replied, “Hmmm, I hope we can make it gay.” (Gay in this sense means happy).
They played inside, all day
With tiny soldiers made out of clay
George’s parents went upstairs
And they began to stare
George was having fun
Which made his blood run
At the end, Kim gave him a kiss
Which sent George into a perfect bliss
When she left, George became sad
He did not speak to his dad
His day kept getting worse
At night, he had a 100 degree fever
George did not have a reviver
Cough, cough, cough, all night
This gave his parents such a fright
The fever kept getting worse
He thought he had a curse
From that darned red rose
The morning came, he was dehydrated and sweating
Though, the sweat did not stain the bedding
The fever was at its highest peak
It made George feel bleak
He would not be in this way
If he just thrown the rose away
George did not make until the night
His parents were not in delight
Their son just died, from a fever
His mother was in a state of a nonbeliever
The funeral was long
Friends, cousins, uncles, aunts, came along
Tears streamed down all those faces
Especially Kim, whom had new braces
But she was sad, for George had it worse
To die from The Wilted Rose’s curse
