Diapered For My First Communion
DIAPERED FOR MY FIRST COMMUNION
I was 15 and just finished all my classes for my First Holy Communion and mom told me that in the next two weeks we will go shopping for my white communion dress and veil and the accessories that go with it.
All of the 7 and 8 year old little girls were equally excited as I was knowing that we were going to be like brides for the day! "How about we go shopping for your outfit this Saturday and make a day of it" mom suggested. "Sure,that would be fun" I replied and so the stage was set.
That Saturday mom and I went to several department stores but didn't find a dress that I liked. "Let's try that children's wear store near the mall" mom said. So we went there and they had all kinds of dresses and veils and everything else to go with them.
Mom picked out a cute, poofy, top of the knees communion dress in my size and said "this dress is so cute and since you are with the little kids, you would look more like the little girls". So I tried the dress on and it fit me perfect! We got the veil to match and then got a pair of lace socks and the white, patent leather shoes. I was now all set or so I thought!
Upon arriving home, we sent a picture of my outfit to my Great aunt Sofie, who is very devout catholic. Later that week a small package arrived for me from her. After I got home from school, mom and I went to my room and I opened the package. In the box was a cloth diaper, adult size plastic pants, diaper pins and a plain white tee shirt.
The letter said that Sofie was coming to the ceremony and that the "cloth diaper, rubber pants and tee shirt" are my underwear under my dress and that she expects me to wear them. I was flabbergasted and mom said that I have to wear them since Sofie will be buying me a car after high school.
The time flew by, and my big day was here. After my bath, I laid on my bed while mom and Sofie powdered me, then pinned the diaper on, then pulled the rubber pants up my legs and over the diaper, then put the tee shirt on me. Next came my lace socks, shoes, dress and veil.
As I walked out of my room, I could hear the lousy fitting rubber pants crinkling under my dress. We all went to the parish and I joined my class and the little girls all looked cute in their white outfits. I was towards the middle of the processional walking down the aisle and felt weird having the diaper and rubber pants on under my dress.
At my party, mom lifted my dress and showed the diaper and rubber pants to most of my friends and female relatives and told them I was a little girl for the day! And that was my diapered First Holy communion!
